Heartland Overture

Originally published by BRS Music, INC. Commissioned by the Crestview Middle School Band, Douglas, McElhaney, Director, this Grade 3 piece features a rousing 6/8 March opening section, then moves into a majestic slow section which features a trumpet solo before returning to the 6/8 and a rousing finish. Our recording was made by the Butler University Band. The trumpet solo was played by Devon Henderson, who was a senior at Butler at the time. The interesting back story is that Devon was also a student in the Crestview Middle School band for the piece’s premiere, when she was an 8th grader.
